According to Austrian tradition, Santa rewards the good children while the monster-like demon Krampus is said to catch the disobedient and take them with him in his sack. The first week of December (especially the 6th) young men dress up as the beast and scare children with chains and bells.
Krampus is used to scare children into obedience by promising punishments, such as rice saunas, but can also take away children who have not been good.
