Szilasi Keramik 1965-2018
Janos Szilasi was from Hungaria and studied as a ceramist in the Italian city of Faenza. After a period at the Arabia Porcelain Factory in Finland, he settled on Gotland where in 1965 he started his own ceramics workshop - Szilasi Keramik.
Thomas Szilasi took over the business in 1984 and at the same time changed the name of the company to "Gotlandskrukan", in addition two sales shops were opened in the middle of the old medieval city of Visby.
When Thomas quit in 2004, Andreas Szilasi took over the company. He returned to using the old name "Szilasi Keramik" and today the company has expanded with another workshop.
From the beginning, traditional utility and utility ceramics were produced, but recently the focus has broadened. Now they also produce tableware such as Japanese-inspired Katari in Stoneware, in addition they have made beautiful copies of old medieval ceramics.
The objects bear label "Szilasi Keramik Visby" and/or carved signature "Szilasi Wisby".
