Trolls

Thomas Dam (1915–1989) was a Danish woodcarver from Gjøl who created the iconic "lucky trolls" (also known as pen trolls or Good Luck Trolls). He carved the first troll out of wood in the late 1940s because he could not afford to buy Christmas presents for his daughter.

These charming creatures with their wild hair, big eyes and round bellies became a global success and spread all over the world. They became, among other things, the lucky mascot during famous transatlantic flights and were sold in millions. The classic trolls are still produced and sold, both as nostalgic collectors' items and as updated design figures.
